I didn't meet Ashley until the day of our engagement session. She and Luke are from Illinois and are planning a gorgeous Aspen destination wedding next summer, of which I am honored to photograph.

I never know what to expect when I go on these "blind date" type photo sessions. What will the couple be like? Will they hate the camera, love the camera, will they be shy, outgoing, take direction well, etc. I would say about 60% of the time I meet my clients before photographing them. At the meeting I can get a small idea of what they may be like and come to the session prepared.

To my pleasant surprise this kind, lovely couple arrived (coming off of a loooooong drive from Illinois), dressed in white and ready to work it. They were younger than I'd imagined, not sure why.... but clearly in love. :)

 I did love taking photos of these two. They were one of those couples who were very comfortable in front of the camera.

I am often asked why many of my photos look like the couples are models. I am flattered by this assumption, however often times I have to work hard at getting couples to open up, or to find the right angles to show of their best sides. Most of the time the guy is completely uncomfortable at the idea of getting his photo taken for 2 hours and having people gawk at him while its happening.

 I don't just show up and start snapping. I really take time to chat with my couples about what they are comfortable with, what angles they like best of themselves and what my vision is mixed with theirs so they can properly comply.... it is not always a walk in the park like it may seem.

BUT every once in a while there are the few exceptions who truly are very photogenic and comfortable... Ashley and Luke happen to be one of these couples that we photogs hope for. They were just fun and easy!

Looking forward to Aspen and these two again next summer!
